It’s been a busy period for Multi Kulde Vest in Sunnmøre, with projects showcasing both the breadth of their expertise and the strength of their capacity.
On the island of Ellingsøya near Ålesund, a SPAR grocery store was completely stripped down and rebuilt in record time – equipped with a brand-new, state-of-the-art refrigeration system. At the same time, the team was coordinating the dismantling and relocation of advanced drying technology for a dried salted codfish producer.
Full-scale modernisation
The newly upgraded SPAR store on Ellingsøya received a comprehensive refrigeration overhaul. Multi Kulde Vest was responsible for every technical aspect – from dismantling the old installation to delivering and commissioning an energy-efficient replacement.
The store was gutted down to the bare structure and rebuilt with a structural extension to house modern machinery that ensures stable and reliable cooling.
Project manager Ole Christian Tennøy led the work with precision, coordinating the team from dismantling outdated equipment to bringing new, efficient technology online.
With a focus on sustainability, quality and better customer experience, the result is improved product freshness, reduced food waste and a more environmentally responsible store operation.

“We don’t just install equipment – we deliver year-round reliability for our customers,” says project manager Ole Christian Tennøy.
“The timeline was tight, but the team pulled it off. Today, the store operates with advanced systems that maintain perfect temperature – all day, every day.”
A profession everyone depends on
“Ask someone on the street what we do, and most won’t know. But we’re the reason your drinks are cold, your food stays fresh, and industrial processes keep running smoothly,” says technician Kenan Selak.
The SPAR project is a great example of how Multi Kulde Vest contributes with climate-friendly and energy-efficient solutions.
“The old system used HFC refrigerants, which are now banned, and had open display units that consumed a lot of electricity. The new CO₂-based system with closed cabinets uses much less energy and is far more environmentally friendly,” Kenan explains.

Specialist know-how
Multi Kulde Vest has also delivered refrigeration solutions for drying processes at a dried salted codfish production facility – a job requiring both precision and niche knowledge.

“Accurate temperature and humidity levels are critical to the final quality of dried salted codfish,” says project manager Arne Rongve.
“It’s a fine-tuned process with narrow margins – but high value.”
The drying systems are now being relocated to a new facility, and Multi Kulde Vest is handling both the dismantling and reinstallation.

“Delivering perfect temperature is about food safety, quality, and sustainability,” says Arne Rongve.
Temperature with purpose
“Perfect temperature is about food safety, product quality – and sustainability. The better we preserve food, the less we waste. That means a lot, both for our customers and the environment.”
Apprentice Truls Rongve Svendsen has had hands-on experience throughout:
“I learn something new every day. It’s fast-paced, but rewarding to see what we can achieve in a short time.”
Both sites are now monitored by Multi Kulde Vest’s 24/7 control centre – ensuring stability, safety and peace of mind for the customer.
