This is an edited trans\u00adlation of an article origi\u00adnally written for the Kulde og varme\u00adpumper trade journal by editor J\u00f8rn Wad.<\/em><\/p>\n

Eliassen has never regretted this decision, and is now taking his quali\u00adfying exam in that trade at PTG in Narvik. He sounds completely relaxed at the prospect, thanks to the solid training he has received from his first day as an apprentice and the good follow-up provided all the way. So taking the exam now is more or less a matter of doing just what he does on a normal day.<\/p>\n

Recom\u00admended<\/strong><\/p>\n

Asked whether he would recommend this trade to a friend, Eliassen says he would not hesitate to give it every praise. \u201cIn my view, it\u2019s a very good trade \u2013 parti\u00adcu\u00adlarly if you can join a small team like the one we have in Narvik.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat let\u2019s you try it all, both various service assign\u00adments and constructing instal\u00adla\u00adtions. Then you\u2019re devel\u00adoping the whole time, and it never gets boring.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old secured his appren\u00adticeship towards the end of his second year at upper secondary school, and says he was lucky in getting it with PTG. That was his first choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason for that\u2019s simple \u2013 it looked like being the biggest and best company, so I was really keen to work there. And that\u2019s turned out to be the right decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I said before, I\u2019ve felt properly looked after the whole time. And that\u2019s important when you get to where I am now, about to take the exam \u2013 that you feel confident about what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eliassen certainly expresses a rock-solid conviction of quali\u00adfying and has the opport\u00adunity to continue working for PTG. He makes it clear that this is what he wants to do.<\/p>\n

But he has no plans for the moment to continue his education. \u201cI\u2019m pleased to have reached the point of quali\u00adfying as a skilled worker, and aim to work at that for a few years. Then we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, I haven\u2019t actually thought much further than the exam. But I know, of course, that the company offers many opport\u00adu\u00adnities if you yourself want to go further.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked what is absolutely the best feature of his job, he has to reflect a little before answering \u2013 a little hesitantly. \u201cI don\u2019t know, really. There\u2019s a lot of satis\u00adfying things to do here. But it\u2019s probably the fact that this is such a varied job all the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that respect, we\u2019re lucky here in Narvik with a small department. You just have to turn your hand to things when it\u2019s necessary, which means the work is constantly changing. That suits me very well, so that\u2019s undoubtedly what I appreciate most.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a trade where I\u2019m pretty certain to enjoy myself, and which I aim to continue with as far ahead as I can see now, at any rate.
