PTG has secured a contract from Norwegian shipbuilder Westcon to deliver cooling and freezing solutions to a new factory trawler designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions for \u00c5lesund-based fishing company Bluewild.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A number of Nordic technology and equipment suppliers are involved in making this innovative ship a reality. It has been named for the Ecofive \u2013 eco-friendly fishing vessel \u2013 concept.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

Refri\u00adge\u00adration solutions<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bluewild has made a strong commitment to good fish welfare and high quality standards for the raw material. The cooling and freezing solutions on board play a key role in the value chain.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

PTG is colla\u00adbo\u00adrating with four of the other suppliers, and its delivery includes ensuring a perfect tempe\u00adrature with minimal energy consumption for the shipboard refri\u00adge\u00adrated seawater (RSW) plant, plate freezers, indivi\u00addually quick-frozen (IQF) freezers and the freezing plant. Freezing capacity will be 65 tonnes per day, including 25 in the IQF freezers and 40 in the plate freezers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

SeaCo2<\/sub>ol RSW<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>

\u201cWe ensure that the good quality of the catch is preserved by starting the cooling process as soon as the fish have been bled,\u201d explains Fjellstad. \u201cOur SeaCo2<\/sub>ol RSW plant cools seawater in the cooling pipes, and also delivers refri\u00adge\u00adrated seawater to the factory to avoid the fish being warmed up by the process.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>

Live fish are conducted from the trawler through a piping system below the waterline to water-filled reception tanks. They are resti\u00adtuted there and kept alive before being elect\u00adri\u00adcally stunned and bled, and are then sent on through cooling pipes to reduce their tempe\u00adrature and speed up freezing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

Super\u00adFreeze<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>

The fish is kept cooled throughout the process and quickly frozen to \u201135\u00b0C with the Super\u00adFreeze system after being processed in the shipboard factory. IQF freezers ensure that each fillet is rapidly frozen. Residual raw materials will also be conserved in the best possible way and frozen in the plate freezers with automatic bottom emptying.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

\u201cQuick freezing and low-tempe\u00adrature freezer storage will allow Bluewild to preserve the good and fresh quality of the fish from the time it is hauled on board until it lies on the consumer\u2019s plate,\u201d says Fjellstad.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

Freezing fish quickly means the ice crystals which form are smaller than if they are frozen slowly. Large crystals damage the cells and tissue fibres. Rapid freezing to low tempe\u00adra\u00adtures thereby reduces cell disruption during the freezing process and in thawing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

Natural refri\u00adgerants<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>

\nBoth the SeaCo2<\/sub>ol RSW and Super\u00adFreeze plants use CO2<\/sub> as a natural refri\u00adgerant, notes Fjellstad. \u201cCO2<\/sub> is a natural, robust, well-tested and environment-friendly refri\u00adgerant, both at industrial plants ashore and on fishing vessels.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>

Energy-economic<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>

\u201cWhere energy optimi\u00adsation is concerned, this new system allows us to adjust freezer capacity at all times to match require\u00adments,\u201d he adds, \u201cHeat recovery from the CO2<\/sub> plant is also very beneficial. Our systems thereby help to reduce total energy and fuel consumption on board.<\/p>\n

<\/p>

\u201cThe technology is environment-friendly, enhances energy efficiency, and not least contri\u00adbutes to a substantial improvement in catch quality.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
