PTG is to deliver a complete energy plant to provide sustai\u00adnable cooling and heating for the new Lakse\u00adfab\u00adrikken salmon processing factory at Mar\u00f8ya in N\u00e6r\u00f8ysund local authority in Tr\u00f8ndelag county. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The first part of this facility is due for delivery in October, with the whole project scheduled for completion in the early summer of 2021. PTG is colla\u00adbo\u00adrating in the project with R\u00f8rvik Kulde, a local contractor and partner.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Big commitment
\n<\/span><\/b><\/span>Lakse\u00adfab\u00adrikken at Mar\u00f8ya repre\u00adsents a big commitment for Sinka\u00adberg\u00adHansen, with an overall area of 17 000 square metres and an annual production capacity of 100 000 tonnes of salmon. That repre\u00adsents a doubling in capacity compared with the existing facility.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

PTG will deliver a complete energy plant to provide sustai\u00adnable cooling and heating for SinkabergHansen\u2019s new salmon factory at Mar\u00f8ya. The detailed attention paid to energy will yield a very high proportion of recycled power, which is estimated at no less than 2.98 gigawatt-hours per annum \u2013 in other words, almost three million kilowatt-hours.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Heat recovery
\n<\/span><\/b><\/span>The new plant will have a total cooling capacity of more than three megawatts (3 000 kilowatts), while the factory\u2019s heating requirement will largely be met by recycled heat from the energy system. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat will in turn provide very good and effective operating economics for Lakse\u00adfab\u00adrikken,\u201d says Berg.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hot water
\n<\/span><\/b><\/span>The plant will require 90 000 litres of hot water per day, primarily for cleaning the production facilities and processing systems. During the night, a drying system will remove surface water to prevent bacterial growth. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All hot water is to be produced by recovering heat from cooling and freezing in the production process. A CO2<\/sub> heat pump will recover heat from the cooling plant in order to raise the tempe\u00adrature to 70\u201380<\/span><\/span>\u00b0<\/span><\/span>C. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The energy system will also deliver heat to the production process as well as to office premises, and for melting snow and for the dehumi\u00addi\u00adfi\u00adcation system.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Greener
\n<\/span><\/b><\/span>Sinka\u00adberg\u00adHansen is known for its commitment to energy-efficient solutions which contribute to a greener aquaculture industry. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn total, the various measures will make a substantial contri\u00adbution to the UN\u2019s sustai\u00adnable devel\u00adopment goals for energy efficiency,\u201d says Ragnar S\u00e6ternes, research and devel\u00adopment coordi\u00adnator at SinkabergHansen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen investing in a new plant, we must keep in mind tomorrow\u2019s compe\u00adtitive position and market require\u00adments,\u201d adds project manager Eskil Laukvik. \u201cApart from further reducing the industry\u2019s environ\u00admental impact, the measures we\u2019re taking also facilitate more economic operation. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s naturally very inter\u00ade\u00adsting for the devel\u00adopment of a forward-looking and sustai\u00adnable aquaculture industry.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Innovative
\n<\/span><\/b><\/span>Berg reports that PTG and Sinka\u00adberg\u00adHansen have colla\u00adbo\u00adrated for several months in a preli\u00adminary project to design an efficient solution. State-owned Enova is providing support as part of its programme on energy and climate commit\u00adments in industry. The solution will help to save almost three megawatt-hours (MWh) per annum.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

PTG is among the leaders for industrial plants using CO2<\/sub> as the refri\u00adgerant. Lakse\u00adfab\u00adrikken will be the first salmon harve\u00adsting facility of its size to use this gas as the refri\u00adgerant for the whole cooling system, with the exception of an ice machine utilising ammonia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The cooling and heating plant comprises a number of units linked together in an integrated energy system. It includes four SeaCO2<\/sub>ol refri\u00adge\u00adrated seawater (RSW) units for cooling seawater and fish, a Finsam ice plant, a tunnel freezer, CO2<\/sub> air conditioning and a CO2<\/sub> heat pump for hot water and space heating.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSinka\u00adberg\u00adHansen has long experience with CO2<\/sub> as a refri\u00adgerant and would like to use it throughout the Mar\u00f8ya facility for environ\u00admental reasons,\u201d says Berg. \u201cIt\u2019s satifisfied with the technology and wants to take it even further.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Phasing out
\n<\/span><\/b><\/span>Norway has been a prime mover in securing inter\u00adna\u00adtional agreements on phasing out freon (R22) and hydro\u00adfluo\u00adro\u00adcarbons (HFCs), and 197 nations reached agreement in Rwanda during 2016 to cut the use of these powerful green\u00adhouse gases (GHGs).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The effect of the various GHGs on the climate is measured by their global warming potential (GWP) and ozone depletion potential (ODP).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Freon is 1 700 times more damaging for the environment than CO2<\/sub> as a GHG, but is primarily harmful for its negative effect on the ozone layer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With a GWP of 3 922, the R404a HFC refri\u00adgerant blend is also risky for its long-term negative environ\u00admental effect. As its rating implies, its GHG effect is 3 922 times more powerful than CO2<\/sub>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The latter has a GWP of 1 and no negative effect on the ozone layer, since the gas used is recycled from other industry. Compared with freon, CO2<\/sub> is also cheaper to buy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

\n<\/strong>Sinka\u00adberg\u00adHansen is an aquaculture company with facilities at Ytre Namdal, Bindal, Br\u00f8nn\u00f8y and Her\u00f8y and its head office and production plant at Mar\u00f8ya in N\u00e6r\u00f8ysund local authority.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

N\u00e6r\u00f8ysund is Norway\u2019s largest local authority in the fish-farming sector as well as an important centre for fishing, with seafood companies providing a combined turnover of more than NOK 6 billion. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

R\u00f8rvik is the largest fishing port on the mid-Norwegian Tr\u00f8ndelag coast, with 15 000 ship calls per annum.
