Around half of Koralhav\u2019s catch goes to the fillet industry \u2013 which makes the quality of the frozen-at-sea fish absolutely critical.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Ronny Nogva is clear that quality was the deciding factor when choosing a new freezing system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/nofima.com\/results\/colder-frozen-fish-please\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nofima reports<\/a><\/strong><\/span> show clearly that rapid freezing and achieving a suffi\u00adci\u00adently low core tempe\u00adrature are key to preserving product quality over time,\u201d he&nbsp;says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rapid freezing<\/strong><br>Super\u00adFreeze is an efficient CO\u2082-based system that freezes fish far faster than conven\u00adtional solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Roy Fjellstad, Sales Manager Marine &amp; Industry at PTG Kulde\u00adteknisk, explains:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Super\u00adFreeze system is designed for freezing down to \u201350 \u00b0C and provides up to 25 per cent faster freezing and 25 per cent higher capacity than traditional systems. This results in improved quality and helps maintain it over&nbsp;time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nogva says that the expectation of improved quality was crucial in the decision:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see this as a major step forward for the company. Even if market prices don\u2019t increase overnight, stronger quality will benefit us in the long&nbsp;term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lower green\u00adhouse gas emissions<\/strong><br>The upgrade is also driven by the company\u2019s desire to phase out the vessel\u2019s existing HFC system (hydro\u00adfluo\u00adro\u00adcarbons) \u2013 a group of synthetic refri\u00adgerants with high global warming potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHFCs have to go. They are a climate-unfri\u00adendly gas, and we want a more environ\u00admen\u00adtally respon\u00adsible system,\u201d Nogva&nbsp;says.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the new system offers better operating charac\u00adte\u00adri\u00adstics at low load, which can help reduce the vessel\u2019s climate footprint. This is because Super\u00adFreeze uses several smaller compressors with lower capacity, and can modulate output as needed. During transit, when the load is low, the system can therefore run more gently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe machinery will mostly run at low load after the rapid-freezing process. This means lower energy use \u2013 and therefore lower emissions,\u201d Nogva explains.<br>With increased capacity, the vessel can also handle both large and small catches more efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven with limited volume, we can get the fish into the freezer store more quickly. It makes our opera\u00adtions on board more efficient overall,\u201d he&nbsp;says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Starting early in the new year<\/strong><br>Instal\u00adlation work begins in January 2026, meaning Koralhav will operate with the new freezing system for most of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>Fjellstad says PTG Kulde\u00adteknisk is looking forward to the delivery:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe greatly appreciate the trust from Kowi and Koralen. This is a modern system that will deliver noticeable benefits in terms of quality, capacity and climate impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Koralhav<\/strong><br>Koralhav was built in 2000 and holds quotas for cod, saithe, haddock, tusk and ling. As of 2025, the vessel had landed 2,083 tonnes of whitefish. It is owned by Koralhav AS in Brattv\u00e5g, and in 2025 became part of Kowi AS \u2013 a colla\u00adbo\u00adration between the Koralhav owners and the Williksen family.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
