When it is ready to open in January 2025, heating and cooling for a building covering more than 33 000 square metres will derive primarily from seawater and natural refrigerants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelecting solutions which utilise natural gases is enshrined in the hospital\u2019s functional speci\u00adfi\u00adcation for both financial and environ\u00admental reasons,\u201d explains Richard Olaussen, project manager at Consto and respon\u00adsible to the client for the hospital\u2019s energy centre.<\/p>\n<p>The Hammerfest facility is due to meet about two-thirds of its cooling and heating require\u00adments from seawater at a tempe\u00adrature of 6\u20137\u00b0C, with the aid of two large ammonia pumps and heat exchangers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very effective method, which signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly reduces the hospital\u2019s energy consumption,\u201d reports Olaussen.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d3ffef6 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d3ffef6\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ccaa874\" data-id=\"ccaa874\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a0333c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a0333c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Halving power&nbsp;bills<\/strong><br>\nAccording to an article on the nrk.no website from the Norwegian Broad\u00adcasting Corpo\u00adration (NRK), project manager Morten Grunnhov at the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency believes the modern heat pump offers many advantages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re getting all our energy for a fraction of the price we\u2019d have to pay if we bought it direct from the elect\u00adricity grid,\u201d he&nbsp;says.<\/p>\n<p>The article notes that power bills are expected to be reduced by around NOK 3 million per&nbsp;year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the plant we\u2019ve got here, we\u2019re effec\u00adtively paying for just over half the energy we use,\u201d Grunnhov reports.<\/p>\n<p>Although the modern energy centre costs far more than traditional solutions, the construction agency believes it will yield big savings over&nbsp;time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re paying a little extra now to secure cheaper energy during the operating phase,\u201d Grunnhov observes. \u201cAnd that lasts a lot longer that the construction project.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ef676b0 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ef676b0\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\" data-settings=\"{&quot;jet_parallax_layout_list&quot;:[]}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ef9c00f\" data-id=\"ef9c00f\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-858f154 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"858f154\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>No negative environ\u00admental effects<\/strong><br>\nMartin Corne\u00adli\u00adussen is PTG\u2019s project manager respon\u00adsible for the technology involved and instal\u00adlation of the indoor climate control system at the Hammerfest hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to a high level of energy efficiency, ammonia is a very environment-friendly refri\u00adge\u00adration medium,\u201d he&nbsp;says.<\/p>\n<p>Its climate effect is demon\u00adstrated through its global warming (GWP) and ozone depletion (ODP) poten\u00adtials. At the same time, waste heat is recovered and conducted back to the system, ensuring that no energy is&nbsp;lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In parallel, Corneliussen\u2019s team is installing a number of refri\u00adge\u00adration and freezer equipment for the 11 refri\u00adge\u00adrator and freezer rooms being provided for such functions as catering, storage and laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>CO<sub>2<\/sub> has been selected as the refri\u00adgerant for these rooms, and Corne\u00adli\u00adussen is pleased that a natural medium is also chosen here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to being environment-friendly, natural media have thermo\u00addy\u00adnamic properties which contribute to high efficiency factors \u2013 in other words, larger amounts of energy are obtained per unit of energy supplied. He notes that the EU\u2019s F gas regulation aims to reduce the use and emission of green\u00adhouse gas by two-thirds in&nbsp;2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will see ever stricter demands related to this issue in coming years,\u201d Schj\u00f8lberg says. \u201cSupporting our customers in switching to environment-friendly alter\u00adna\u00adtives is therefore important for&nbsp;us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to be the best at providing advice, instal\u00adlation and service for forward-looking and sustai\u00adnable climate and refri\u00adge\u00adration solutions.
