Meeting that ambition also requires that the fish maintain a perfect tempe\u00adrature. PTG R\u00f8rvik Kulde is now well under way in renewing part of the refri\u00adge\u00adration plant at R\u00f8rvik Fisk and, once the new ice machine is in place, the latter will also have a much smaller environ\u00admental footprint than before.<\/p>\n

Local quality food since 1927<\/strong>
\nThe story of R\u00f8rvik Fisk began in 1927 with Marie and \u00d8ivind Pettersen, parents of the present CEO. While his father sold fresh fish, his mother began processing fish products by hand in the cellar of their home at R\u00f8rvik.<\/p>\n

The company now delivers fresh, frozen and salted fish to an inter\u00adna\u00adtional market as well as fish products to Norway\u2019s retail sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy parents built up the company on the basis of delivering high quality,\u201d says Pettersen. \u201cWe\u2019ve maintained this base value when making both traditional and innovative products.\u201d<\/p>\n

Own ice production<\/strong>
\nWith its production facilities and several fish reception units, R\u00f8rvik Fisk ranks today as a leading player in Tr\u00f8ndelag county\u2019s fishing sector. The ability to produce ice on the spot is therefore very important.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re completely dependent on producing our own ice to run our company,\u201d comments Pettersen. \u201cWe receive 4 000 tonnes of fish annually which we process for the Norwegian market, fresh-pack for such markets as Belgium, France and Spain, or export frozen to eastern Europe and Egypt.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the company\u2019s own consumption, he adds that it sells ice to fishermen and says that great emphasis is given to good relations with the fishing fleet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not only because it delivers our raw material, but also because this relationship is crucial for maintaining the high level of quality we want.\u201d<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

R\u00f8rvik Kulde AS became part of PTG in July 2022.<\/em><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Local forces<\/strong>
\nWhen one of the two existing ice machines was ready for replacement this summer, local resources came to the company\u2019s aid. PTG R\u00f8rvik Kulde, which recently changed its name from R\u00f8rvik Kulde, won the job of upgrading the plant.<\/p>\n

The old machine being replaced is a condenser type using Freon R22 as its refri\u00adgerant. It has stood in the factory since before the present owner took it over in 1994. Because of its negative impact on the environment and the ozone layer, refilling with R22 was banned by Norway in 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re installing a TS 8 ice machine, a compressor and an air-cooled condenser,\u201d reports Amund Johansen, who recently took over as CEO at PTG R\u00f8rvik Kulde.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe machine has a daily capacity of 20 tonnes of plate ice. It uses ammonia as its refri\u00adgerant, a natural and environment-friendly medium which is highly suitable for cooling and freezing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ammonia makes no contri\u00adbution to the green\u00adhouse effect, he explains. It has a global warming potential [GWP] of zero, compared with 1 810 for the machine being replaced.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s good to be able to choose something more environment-friendly,\u201d affirms Pettersen.<\/p>\n

\u201cMainte\u00adnance costs have also been a very important consi\u00adde\u00adration in choosing new technology.
